CLIFTON, Bristol. Aerial view of Clifton showing the Avon Gorge and Suspension Bridge photographed in March 1921. This area of Clifton includes a lot of Georgian and Regency housing including Royal York Crescent and The Paragon. CORBRIDGE Roman Town Museum, Northumberland. Replica of the Corbridge Lanx. Rectangular Roman silver platter depicting Apollo, Artemis and Athena. The original was discovered in 1735 and is owned by the British Museum.
The raised rim is decorated with a running vine-scroll in relief, and forms a frame to the picture which depicts Apollo at the entrance to a shrine; his sister Artemis enters on the left, and Athena is also present.

Built in the late 14th century by John Lord Lovel, updated by the Arundell family after c.1570, the castle saw much fighting during the Civil War and the 'romantic ruin' was later incorporated into the 18th century garden landscape of New Wardour House.

The House was heavily bombed during World War II and remained derelict until 1952 when parts of the remains were preserved.

DOWN HOUSE, Kent. Historic photograph of Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913). Wallace was a proponent of natural selection whose paper on the subject (1858) prompted Darwin to publish "On the Origin of Species" (1859). Wallace was a keen supporter of Darwin's theory and later published "Darwinism" (1889).
